BlackBuck 8M (rev3) - compact LED/Laser diodes driver controlled/modulated by an external signal or potentiometer.

The driver is designed for use in portable devices powered by Li-Ion/Li-Po batteries but also can be powered by a 12 Volts lab power supply capable of delivering sufficient output current.

The output current is set using the onboard multi-turn pot, and then this value can be changed from 0 to 100% by changing the level of the control signal. Since this driver is a current source, there is no effect of the load voltage Vf (voltage drop) on the output current, provided that the supply voltage Vin = Vf+2V. To ensure maximum conversion efficiency with an output current exceeding 5A, it is recommended to use a power supply with voltage Vf+7V

With an output current of up to 3 Amps, this driver can operate without a heat sink. At a current exceeding 3 Amps, it is necessary to use a heat sink, it is mounted on the underside of the driver through a thermally conductive insulator. It is necessary to avoid the electrical contact between the driver and the heat sink.

The driver has built-in overheating protection and can also be turned off by a signal from an external sensor (NTC 3950/10K) This sensor is recommended to be mounted as close as possible to the load, as some laser diodes are not tolerant to overheating and may fail. The driver remains operational without a connected sensor, and this input can also be used as an interlock input: when the input is floating, the driver is on, when shorted - is in standby mode.

The output current can be controlled by an external signal, analog or PWM. The maximum modulation voltage should not exceed 5 volts. If your source has a different signal level, then you need to convert its level to allowable values. (for example, most Arduino-based controllers are fully compatible). The external potentiometer (1...10K) can be used as a control signal (modulation) source - the driver has a special reference output of 5 volts. To avoid damagethe driver, do not shorting this output to any circuit.

The drivers are fully tested and preconfigured for the 1.6 Amps output.
